Musical Typography
This project is a three panel piece inspired by the opening song “More Than Survive” from the musical Be More Chill.This certainly didn’t help my obsession with this musical in the slightest. Completed in early 2018.
Concept Panel
The first panel consists of a chosen selection of lyrics. I decided on one of the opening verses going into the chorus. The colors are inspired by the album art of the 2015 edition of Be More Chill, since this was made before the New York revival was even announced.
Melody Panel
Secondly, there’s the Melody page which has those lyrics articulated in a fashion to how they’re sung. This one was based off the actual songbook music. The coding in the background of each part also represents the computer based Squip, which is central character in the musical.
Beat Panel
Lastly there’s the Beat page which connects the other two pieces and showcases the audio waves and beat of the song. The white background in each part is styled after notebook paper due to the main character, Jeremy Heere being a High School student. The button below has the process book.
